The official trailer for the upcoming film “Spencer” was released on Sept. 23. The movie, directed by Pablo Larraín, is to be released in theaters on Nov. 5. The trailer shows Kristen Stewart’s anticipated performance as Diana, Princess of Wales (née Spencer).
The official trailer follows the teaser trailer released on Aug. 26, which gave audiences a glimpse of what was to come. The teaser trailer displayed clips of Stewart as Diana as she shows viewers, with just facial expressions alone, the stress she faces while being an inducted member of the royal family. The official trailer goes more in-depth, portraying more characters and capturing the essence of the film.
“There has to be two of you. There’s the real one, and the one they take pictures of,” echos in the background as the trailer shows Diana crying which is followed by her visible discomfort in front of flashing cameras.
Joined by Jack Farthing as Prince Charles and Stella Gonet as Queen Elizabeth II, “Spencer” will portray the story of Diana’s life in the royal family. The story and the drama that has held the attention of many even after the death of Diana in 1997 will now be brought to life.
The film is expected to follow the dramatic journey of Princess Diana as she begins to crumble under the stress of the monarchical expectations and her failing marriage. As Diana joins the royal family for Christmas at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate, the audience will see the inner turmoil she faces.
Production companies NEON and Topic Studios even describe a Christmas scene in “Spencer” featuring Diana and the Royal Family as “an [accurate] imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days.”
Since its release at the Venice International Film Festival where it received a three-minute long standing ovation, the film has received positive reviews by critics. Specifically, Stewart’s portrayal of Princess Diana has been overwhelmingly positive with even Forbes magazine predicting that this role could land her a spot in the race for best actress at the Oscars. The potential nomination would be the first for Stewart, who is widely known for her role as Bella Swan in the popular “Twilight” franchise.
The trailer and critical acclaim have audiences counting down the days until Stewart takes the big screen. Us Weekly described her as the “breathtaking soul of her film,” contributing to the excitement.

Stewart’s role in the film is different from roles she has had in the past, providing anticipation and excitement for movie-watchers everywhere. The role of Princess Diana is a lofty one. As many know, Princess Diana was loved by many and her legacy continues on today.
Stewart shed some light on what it was like to play such an important figure while speaking to the press at the Venice International Film Festival.
“It’s what’s beautiful about her, that she’s accessible and you feel like you’re friends with her, you feel like she’s your mother. But ironically, she was the most unknowable person,” said Stewart when discussing her relationship with the role.
The actress’s perception of Princess Diana gives audiences cues on what to expect from the film and her performance. Based on the glowing reviews of Stewart in the film, audiences can expect her to capture the true struggle of identity that occurred during Diana’s time in the royal family.
The film is guaranteed to tug on viewers heartstrings as the fateful tale of Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage is told once again.
