There’s nothing quite like seeing your favorite book adapted for film or television. From new releases to old stories, there are many book-to-film adaptations to look forward to in 2023. Now, let’s take a look at some of our favorite titles coming to theaters and streaming this year!
1. “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”

“The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” was written by Suzanne Collins and is a prequel to the popular series “The Hunger Games.” The prequel tells the story of President Snow, the antagonist in the original series, origin story. The teaser trailer was released last year and has had Hunger Games fans ecstatic about the film’s release ever since.
“The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” is expected to hit theaters on Nov. 17.
2. “Lives of the Mayfair Witches”

The “Lives of the Mayfair Witches” series was released in 1990 and was written by acclaimed author Anne Rice. It was recently adapted into a television series by AMC titled “Mayfair Witches.” The show follows the story of Rowan Fielding (Alexandria Daddario), a surgeon with supernatural powers, as he begins her journey of discovering the origins of her abilities and how to use them.
The first episode “Mayfair Witches” was released on Jan. 8 on AMC, with new episodes airing weekly. The trailer can be watched here.
3. “Lockwood & Co.”

“Lockwood and Co.,” written in 2013 by Jonathan Stroud, is a book series that follows three young adults as they fight ghosts in London. Netflix is adapting “Lockwood & Co.” into a thriller/detective series. Fans of the books are looking forward to the first season being released and are already hoping for a season 2 announcement.
The first season of “Lockwood and Co” will be released on Netflix on Jan. 27. The trailer can be watched here.
4. “Text for you”

“Text for You” was written in 2009 by Sofie Cramer. In 2023, it returns as a movie with a title change. “It’s All Coming Back To Me” is a romance drama starring Celine Dion, Priyanka Chopra and Sam Haugan. The film follows the story of a woman who gets into an argument with her fiancé that causes him to storm out of the house angry and get into a car accident that kills him. To help relieve her emotional pain, she begins to text her fiancé’s old number. She soon discovers that the phone had been given to another man who is dealing with his own tragedies. Through their shared grief, these two find connection. Releasing in February, this will be perfect movie for Valentine’s Day.
“It’s All Coming Back to Me” is set to hit theaters on Feb. 10.
5. “Hallowe’en Party”

“Hallowe’en Party” was written by well-known author Agatha Christie in 1969. Christie is known for works such as “Murder on the Orient Express” and “Death on The Nile.” In the fall of 2023, the infamous story will hit screens as “A Haunting in Venice,” starring Tina Fey, Michelle Yeoh, and Kenneth Branagh.
“Hallowe’en Party” is set to be released in theaters on Sept. 15.
