If You Like Hallmark Movies, You Will Love ‘Hart of Dixie’

Created by Leila Gernstein, Hart of Dixie (which ran from 2011-2015 on the CW) is a charming dramatic-comedy set in the fictional town of Bluebell, Alabama. The story follows Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson), a doctor from Manhattan who takes a leap of faith after learning that her estranged father has passed away and left her his medical practice in a small southern town.

In Bluebell, Zoe meets a number of great characters. First is two totally opposite yet both incredibly handsome best friends, Wade Kinsella (Wilson Bethel), the town’s bad boy bartender and George Tucker (Scott Porter), a sweet-hearted lawyer. Plus, she also grows fond of Lavon Hayes (Cress Williams), the town mayor whose guest house she ends up staying in. And then of course Zoe becomes well acquainted with her medical partner Dr. Brick Breeland (Tim Matheson) and his two primadonna daughters Lemon (Jaime King) and Magnolia (Claudia Lee).

We all know that Hallmark movies have a list of simple themes they tend to follow (that’s why those drinking games are so easy lol). The first being a love story between people in their late 20’s or early 30’s — which is exactly how old Zoe Hart is. Zoe’s love story may even be a bit more exciting since she has four whole seasons to figure out what it is her heart wants.

Also similar to Hallmark movies, Hart of Dixie has a main character who travels from a big city to a small town. Zoe, was born and bred in the big city and unexpectedly ended up where she has never even heard of, Bluebell, Alabama. And just like in the movies, she learns to love it.

Lastly, Hart of Dixie is full of lighthearted drama that can only build you up. You know that fuzzy feeling that you get when cuddling up with hot cocoa and a Hallmark movie in December? Well lucky for you that feeling can be mimicked all year round by watching Hart of Dixie.

If you’ve never seen Hart of Dixie and this sounds like your cup of tea, you should definitely give it a go. Hart of Dixie is well-written, romantic and uplifting. Start watching Hart of Dixie today.
